This hidden paradise utilized a variety of materials to create a lush and colorful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the day. This project has evolved over years of improvements and additions. Prairie Tree designed and installed the original landscaping as part of the building package. Each year, the homeowner has had us come back to add and enhance their living space.
Mature trees were a major asset to the site and were worked around in the early stages of the project. Later phases incorporated planting beds filled with shrubs, perennials, annuals and bulbs.
A shady front entry required special plant selection that added interest through form, texture and leaf color. Bulb plantings fade as perennials start to fill out to make this a multi-season garden.
The backyard is where the real fun happens. The grade change presented an opportunity to create a raised patio area for entertaining. A built-in fire pit makes this spot perfect for outdoor nightlife. A seat wall delineates the edge of the patio and accentuates the flowing lines of the design.
The same paving material was carried down to a deck landing to create continuity in the design. Variegated dogwoods add a nice contrast to another shady spot on the property.
